Hey! Listen! Self-Advocacy at the Doctor's Office, Friday August 10th at 6:30

Article number: SU-Hey! Listen! SWOP Fundraiser-1-$25
Availability: In stock (14)

We are offering this workshop as a fundraiser for SWOP Baltimore!

Bianca contacted us with the desire to do a SWOP fundraiser, because:

"Now more than ever, sex workers being targeted by our administration, their safety and livelihoods under attack. After the passage of the SESTA-FOSTA legislation, I realized it was time to stand up and make some noise (and raise some cash!). As an educator committed to social justice, I care about centering the voices and experiences of sex workers fighting the good fight every day. That's why all the proceeds from Hey! Listen! will go to the Sex Worker Outreach Project, an organization committed to connecting, supporting, and organizing sex workers to fight for their rights."

We whole heartedly agree, and so all ticket sales will be donated directly to this crucial organization that works to support Sex Workers. “SWOP Baltimore is a local branch of the Sex Workers Outreach Project, a national social justice network dedicated to the fundamental human rights of sex workers and their communities. SWOP focuses on ending violence and stigma through education and advocacy.”

We are asking for a $25 donation per ticket - the price we would normally charge for this workshop - but feel free to pay more or less using the options available here, or pay any price over the phone or at the store.  26 tickets will be sold (35 if the construction happening at store gets finished before Aug 10th!) No one will be turned away for lack of funds if you are unable to donate but would benefit from this class!

Hey! Listen! Self-Advocacy at the Doctor's Office

Doctors are meant to fix your problems, so why does talking to them about sex frequently create more issues than it solves?

Whether it's pap smears or STI tests, pregnancy planning or birth control, there's a lot you need to know, and your doctor may not be telling you. How can you advocate for yourself as a trans, kinky, or poly person in a medical system that does not cater to marginalized identities and lifestyles? Sex educator and healthcare consultant Bianca Palmisano hosts this workshop to give you tips on navigating the complicated and sometimes uncomfortable conversations you need to have with your doctor about sexual health. Come with your questions for an honest conversation about taking care of your body.

Dancer, poet, sex educator, feminist: Bianca Palmisano is the owner of Intimate Health Consulting, where she specializes in teaching health care providers how to talk about sex. When she's not harassing medical professionals, Bianca teaches community workshops on good communication, consent, and sexual pleasure. She is the primary author of Safer Sex for Trans Bodies, Shame Free Sexual Healthcare, and two volumes of poetry, and has been featured at University of Maryland Sex Week, SlutWalk DC, and The Baltimore Playhouse.
